A Kansas blacksmith apprentice named Hoyt Buck was looking for a better way to temper steel so it would hold an edge longer. His unique approach produced the first Buck Knife in 1902. Hoyt made each knife by hand, using worn-out file blades as raw material. His skill was greatly appreciated during World War II. In 1945 Hoyt and his son Al set up shop as H.H. Buck and Son.
Following the death of his father, Al kept the fledgling custom knife business going until incorporating Buck Knives, Inc. in 1961. Al revolutionized the knife industry in 1964 with the Model 110 Folding Hunter. The folding lockblade knife made Buck a leader. A position we proudly hold today. Hoyt and Al Buck s ingenuity may have put the company on the map, but it is our ongoing commitment to developing innovative new products and improving what we have by third and fourth generation Buck family members that have made Buck the successful knife maker it is today. Frankly, it is what our customers expect from a Buck.
This is Buck s standard blade material because it approaches the wear resistance of high carbon alloys while delivering the corrosion resistance of chromium stainless steels. Add our exclusive heat-treat process and you have a very user-friendly combination of superior corrosion resistance with excellent strength for wear resistance and durability. You also have a blade that is easy to resharpen. For best performance we harden to a Rockwell hardness of Rc 58.
At Buck, we guarantee our knives forever because we believe in the integrity of our products. It was the philosophy of our founder, Hoyt Buck, who pioneered our Forever Warranty and we continue to pass it down with each generation.
We warranty each and every Buck knife to be free of defects in material and workmanship for the life of the knife. We will replace your damaged or defective knife with a new Buck knife or repair it if it holds sentimental value.

When your family name is on the product, you insist on quality materials and pride of craftsmanship.
We give credit where credit is due. Without this man, we would not have the patented heat treating system that has made our blades so legendary.
Paul Bos, a nationally known heat-treat authority has been heat-treating since 1956. Before his retirement from Buck Knives in 2010, he served 70 of America s custom knife makers as well as overseeing all of the heat-treating in Buck Knives factory, where he was able to consult with Buck s engineers. Paul s link to Buck Knives goes back to his early years when he worked on custom knives for Al Buck in the late 1950s. Buck Knives continues to operate Paul s heat treating business out of our factory, led now by Paul Farner who worked under Bos for many years
The process Bos developed, which involves heating, freezing, and then reheating of the steel is like none other in the business, and is why Buck knives are famous for being sharper out of the box and staying sharp longer.
The 290 Rush features an advanced design and a lightweight skeleton frame. The dual pivot mechanism provides an easy and safe blade release.

Amazon’s reviews have a huge impact on the retail world. How many times have you checked reviews on Amazon before buying a product, even if you bought it somewhere else? We know we’ve done that many times.Jerry L Gorham: “Badly manuf…Read more
I just got this knife but it s manufactured poorly so that although there is a nice locking feature to keep it from opening by accident it s semi-spring loaded , the problem is that the keep-open lock mechanism which is similar to a Kershaw or Spyderco isn t designed well and doesn t keep the knife locked open. You can see in the picture that the spring metal to keep it open just barely engages, and in fact, I can easily push the knife blade closed without even touching the locking mechanism. This makes the knife very dangerous since it can easily close on someone s fingers. I even tried to pry it down further but the problem is a binding between the knife blade and the locking mechanism which means they are too closely aligned to one another. Buck should probably stick to the type of bottom lock that they re used to manufacturing since they know how to implement that properly. I will probably just return this knife, but as it stands it s a dangerous manufacturing.Read full 116 ratings for Buck Knives 290 Rush Folding Knife with One Hand Opening at Amazon Reviews
